Significance

We all have those people in our lives that we don’t know what we would do without. The people that you can’t help but to smile when you see. Whether older then us or younger they all have a special place in our heart.

I was just about to graduate in a week or so when my parents said we were going to dinner with my grandparents. Of course, I thought nothing of and wore a flannel and my parents called me a logger. But why would I need to dress up? It was just a casual dinner, going to my favorite, Chinese food. We picked up my grandparents and drove there and we went to the back to a suspiciously large table for the six of us. Then I saw my dad sitting there with a book and I instantly knew what was going on. You see, when my brother graduated my parents got together around seven men that had impacted his life and had them all write a letter to him and speak. And I knew that that was what was going to happen.

So there I was, logger outfit and all, trying to be patient while waiting to see who walked through the door. One by one ladies who had made my days that much more special walked through. I couldn’t stop smiling. Each of them meant so much to me. They ranged from a friend’s mom to teachers to people who had always been there for me from when I was little. We all sat down for dinner and they read their letters to me. I was surrounded by people full of wisdom and the love in the words they spoke to me I will never forget. Whether it was about family, purity, or just expressing how much they loved me. My heart was just filled with joy and I have never felt so loved.

Now, as months have passed, I still look back and can’t help but to smile from ear to ear. On days when I feel like there is no hope and if I wasn’t here no one would notice, I remember those ladies and how they expressed their love for me and all the doubts are gone. Those ladies took time out of their days to show me how much I meant. And for someone who struggled with suicidal issues years ago, there is nothing that could mean more. That night is something I will treasure forever and never forget. It has truly has effected my life.

  1. I too can relate to this. My father wrote to my sister when she was away at school and just recently to my other sister who got married this month. He also wrote to me and gave me my letter like a week before I came to move in day. He means the world to me and I don’t know what I would do without him. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Amazing story! It’s neat that you have such an incredible support behind you. I loved the way you immersed your own thoughts into the story and played through what was in your head. The one thing I would say on a grammatical level, is to think about varying your sentence length. Most of your sentence are long in length and, when all put together, I found it a bit difficult to read. But great story!

  3. That was a great story I liked how smoothly your paragraphs transitioned. It must be nice having everyone who had significant impact on your life being able to offer encouragement and advice.

  4. I really like your story and I also like Chinese food too. You have so much people love you and support you, you are the lucky one. The first time I came U.S my mom wrote a long letter to me, it was the first time that she wrote a letter to me. My mom is not the person who are good at expression. I was very surprise when she gave me the letter. The letter meant a lot to me, when I feel sad, stressful I always read the letter again and again. It remind me that I should keep going because I have many people supporting me. I do not know what I would to without my mom. Thank you for sharing your great story.
